Topic: Anthrax vaccinations in the military and the ethical question surrounding the mandatory program.  As well as the question, should the anthrax vaccine remain mandatory despite its known dangers?

Thesis Statement:  The mandatory anthrax vaccination program for United States military members has resumed despite three years of investigation into the vaccine’s adverse side effects.

Introduction:  This paper is about the anthrax vaccination program currently mandatory in the U.S. military and the many ethical questions it has aroused by the recipients of the vaccine.  Vaccinations were halted due to a dispute among the Department of Defense and Congress for almost three years.  Now, the mandatory anthrax vaccination program for United States military members has resumed despite three years of investigation into the vaccine’s adverse side effects.  The background of anthrax, what it is and the first vaccine will be discussed as well as the military incorporation of the vaccine and its effects on troops during the Gulf War and current Iraq and Afghanistan Wars.  Concurrently, Food and Drug Administration guidelines will be included and the reasons for the brief halt of the vaccination program.  In the end it is my hope that you, the reader, and I may have a better understanding as to what every military member goes through in the name of duty.
